Eco-Friendly Polymer Composites Using Natural Fibers and Biodegradable Fillers: A Review Polymer Science
Main Article Content
Abstract
Preparation of biodegradable fillers/fibres reinforced polymer composites are becoming a good alternative to traditional synthetic materials. These polymer composites reduce environmental pollution with maintaining properties in the use range for different applications. This review explains the details overview of environment friendly polymer composites and describes their properties. Biodegradable fillers like, starch, cellulose lignin, etc. can be used to improve the performance as well as taking care of environmental concern after use. In order to improve interfacial adhesion strength between fibre/filler and polymer matrix, different methodologies are also described in this review article. Different methods used to improve properties such as, surface treatments, modifications, and processing techniques are also discussed in this article. Different polymer processing techniques and their effect on final properties of polymer composites are also discussed in this review. This review article also covers the different applications of the prepared composites to overcome the environmental effects due to the use of petroleum-based composites. At the end of this review article, discussion about the challenges and future research aspect is also carried out to make the ecofriendly polymer composite as good alternative to the petroleum-based polymer materials.
