Plagiarism Policy
The Innovation of Chemistry & Materials for Sustainability (ICMS) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity in publication ethics, following the guidelines set by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). The journal adheres to a strict zero-tolerance policy on plagiarism and strives to foster a transparent, fair, and ethical research environment.
Originality Requirement: All submitted manuscripts must represent original work. The submitting author is solely responsible for obtaining written consent from all co-authors and securing approval from any relevant sponsors prior to manuscript submission. Submissions that fail to meet the originality criteria or that duplicate content will not be considered.
Responsibility of Authors: Authors bear full responsibility for the content of their articles. This responsibility extends to ensuring that the work adheres to ethical publishing practices and that proper citations are provided for all sources. The editors and publishers are not responsible for the accuracy or integrity of the content.
Data Availability and Retention: Authors may be asked to submit raw data for editorial review upon request. Authors are also expected to provide public access to data where feasible and commit to retaining such data for a reasonable period following publication. This ensures transparency and supports the reproducibility of the research.
Zero Tolerance for Plagiarism: ICMS maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward all forms of plagiarism, including:
- Presenting someone else’s work as one’s own.
- Copying significant portions of another’s work without proper acknowledgment.
- Using research findings from other authors without permission or citation.
Plagiarism is a serious ethical violation, and any manuscript found to contain plagiarized content will face rejection or withdrawal from the review process.
Use of Plagiarism Detection: To ensure the integrity of published work, ICMS uses advanced plagiarism detection software (Turnitin), to screen all submitted manuscripts for potential similarities with existing literature. Any detected instances of plagiarism will undergo a thorough investigation.
Consequences of Plagiarism: If plagiarism is confirmed, the manuscript will be rejected, and the authors will be informed of the violation. In cases of severe misconduct, the authors may face a ban from submitting future articles to the journal. Additionally, if necessary, further actions may be taken in accordance with the severity of the ethical breach.
Ensuring Originality and Proper Citation: Authors must ensure that their work is entirely original and that all sources are properly acknowledged through accurate citations and quotations. Failing to appropriately attribute the contributions of others will be considered an ethical violation. The journal reserves the right to request raw data and ensure that the work is reproducible.
COPE Guidelines Compliance: ICMS fully adheres to the ethical standards outlined by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Any instances of plagiarism or other ethical violations will be managed in strict accordance with COPE guidelines, ensuring transparency and fairness in addressing misconduct.
Editorial Decision-Making
The editor holds the final responsibility for deciding which articles are published. The decision is based on the scientific merit, relevance, and validation of the work, with no bias toward the author’s background or affiliations. The editor is also bound to legal obligations, including defamation, copyright infringement, and plagiarism concerns.
Investigation of Plagiarism
If plagiarism is suspected, the editorial team will contact the corresponding author and co-authors to request clarification and provide an opportunity for proper justification. Authors may be asked to demonstrate the reproducibility of their research or provide additional supporting evidence as needed. The journal will ensure a fair and thorough investigation of any claims.
Public Disclosure of Ethical Violations
If ethical misconduct, including plagiarism, is confirmed, the journal reserves the right to take appropriate actions such as issuing an expression of concern, retraction, or correction notification. These actions may be publicly disclosed to maintain the integrity of the scientific record and ensure transparency.
